52 Weeks Book Challenge

Well- I have been behind in my reviewing, again, so I will review two books with one post.
First up is the 5th in the Terri Blackstock Newpointe 911 series, Line of Duty. The author's note said that she was planning on ending this series with book four, but the events of 911 sparked the idea for a continuation. The book opens in the high rise office building where the CEO is being question for indictment when one of the employees finds a bomb hidden in the supply room. The fire department from Newpointe is called in to help with the destruction. This book has heart-wrenching moments as some of the Newpointe crew becomes unaccounted for and to top it off, the perpetrator is eluding them. Was it terrorists? the CEO? or someone else? Blackstock really captures the emotions we all felt on September 11th.

The second book I am review is called The Stress Answer by Dr. Frank Lawlis. I read this book because I have been dealing with anxiety attacks and this book was recommended to me by a friend. This book has very practical advice for dealing with several different problems from like anxiety or depression. I found it fairly easy to read. There is some detailed descriptions about brain functions for each sections which could be a little tedious but it was well worth reading and understanding what was happening in the brain for each situation. I am still working through the steps to overcome the anxiety but it is going very well. Each day is a learning experience for me but the daily suggestions are really helping. The biggest help was knowing I am not crazy and with the help of Jesus, medication and learning how to avoid "stress storms" things will get better. I highly recommend reading this book if you are struggling with any of these areas. You still may need medical intervention but these exercises will help you cope with life better.

52 Weeks Book Challenge

This week for the challenge I finished The Battlefield of the Mind by Joyce Meyers. This book helps to explain the battles we have in our mind, how they started, and how to combat them with the Word of God. I also used the companion workbook as a Bible study.   In combination, I gleaned so much the first time that I am going through it again. I know that I have had many struggles with my mind lately and this book really helped me work through my issues. This book is available for the Kindle.

Rain Rain Rain

What a rainy few weeks we have had in our area. A few weeks back we had a Nor'easter come through. The next day we walked down to the pond to see how much water was "dumped" on us. I found some before pictures of the spill way to compare.

Before the rain

After the rain

I had to add this picture of the mill house that is on the property that is across from the spillway. The water that you see surrounding it has flooded over the banks of the stream that runs adjacent to the mill house. I am thankful that our house is uphill from the pond!

A Spring Trip to the Zoo

This past Monday brought with it a taste of spring weather so we decided to do a quick trip to the zoo. We are so blessed that our small city has a zoo that is less than 10 minutes away. This was sort of a rush trip, because Daddy had to get back to work, so I didn't have as much time to take pictures as I would have liked. As we came to the prairie dog exhibit I noticed in the bushes, right next to the walkway, perched three pea-hens and a peacock. I could not believe how close they let me get to them. They were not camera shy at all!

52 Weeks Book Challenge

Well, I have been so caught up in reading this series that I haven't taken time to write my reviews! A few weeks ago I started reading the Newpointe 911 series by Terri Blackstock. I posted a review of book 1, Private Justice, here.  and book 2, Shadow of Doubt, here (To make things easier I am going to write a review of books 3 & 4 in one post.)

Word of Honor
This book opens with a bang, literally. Someone has blown up the Newpointe Post office. This book has a bit of a different writing style in that the reader knows who committed the crime from the beginning but the people of the town do not. All of the favorite characters from the previous books work together to find this madman before time runs out.

                                             Trial by Fire
Book four opens up with a fire at the towns church. As Pastor/Firefighter Nick Foster is battling the flames in his church's sanctuary, he comes across a body and is injured dragging it out. Many questions rise as the fire is investigated. Was this and accident or a crime? Why would God let this happen? Will it make the town stronger in the end? I could not put this one down for very long before I found myself picking it back up to read more.

Now on to book 5!
